A clash of the west, of two of 2011's beaten semi-finalists, of teams that came a long way under new management to make 2012's final. Jim McGuinness' Donegal raced out of the blocks like lightning against James Horan's Mayo and it proved the difference. A cracking goal from Michael Murphy and an opportunist finish from Colm McFadden gave their side a buffer than ultimately took Sam back to the Hills. Mayo showed great pride and almost turned the tide but it wasn't enough as the Ulster champions won their first All-Ireland in 20 years — bridging a gap between Martin and son Mark McHugh's victories (pictured).
