One of the great modern-day famines was ended on a summer’s day in Hyde Park. Sligo had only claimed two Connacht titles prior to this and had never beaten Galway in a final. They fell behind 0-5 to 0-2 early on but, rallied by Eamonn O’Hara’s goal of the season finish, they lead by a point at half-time. They hung on in an attritional second half to end the long wait for the Yeats County.
