When Eamonn McEneaney lined up a free-kick from just outside the 45’ he knew he had to score. What followed was a strike among the very best in the history of the game as Monaghan forced a reply. In the other semi, Mayo came back from six points down to draw with Dublin. The heavyweights took the measure of the blows and made no mistake in the replays. Kerry then defeated their great rivals by four points in the final.
