Sunday 19 September 1982
Kerry’s golden generation were chasing the footballing immortality of a five-in-a-row in 1982 and led by four points as Mikey Sheehy stepped up to take a penalty late on. He missed and it gave Offaly just a sniff, which they more than inhaled. With the lead whittled down to two, substitute Seamus Darby did what every kid dreams of in his local park: pulled a ball when two points down and fired it to the back of the net. Kerry mortal after all; Darby instead immortalised.
