Twelve years after their last All-Ireland success and Dublin had escaped the doldrums to reach the All-Ireland final and face Galway. Twelve minutes into the second half and the game was in the melting pot when Liam Sammon lined up a penalty. He struck it well but Paddy Cullen stuck out his left hand to divert the ball way for a '45. The Dubs hit three unanswered points and went on to win 0-14 to 1-6.
