Derry were back in the Ulster final attempting to retain Anglo-Celt cup for the first time in their history. Down, however, were the more experienced side after winning three All-Irelands in the previous decade. Goals from John Murphy and Michael Cunningham set them on their way before Mickey Niblock dragged Derry back into it. The legendary Sean O’Neill was inspirational for Down as they sealed a 4-15 to 4-11 win.
