Sunday 20 July 1969
On the same day as the first-ever moon landing, 33-year-old Valentia native Mick O’Connell scored six points from midfield as Kerry won a second Munster title in a row. He had scored four in the semi-final against Waterford and this was the 10th Munster crown of the 12 he would end his career with. O’Connell scored in all four championship games that year, as did Mick O’Dwyer who would be named the 1969 Footballer of the Year.
