Longford beat Dublin in the Leinster quarter-final in 1968 before All-Ireland champions Meath were accounted for. The two victories, plus the preceding years of growth meant they rolled into Croke Park on a wave of confidence. It proved correct as Jack Devine inspired an 11-points, 3-9 to 1-4, over Laois. It was Longford’s first Leinster title, as they became the 10th side in the province to win one.
