The winner of 11 Ulster senior titles, JJ Reilly captained Cavan to two successive All-Ireland titles including the famous final in New York the previous year. A wonderful centre-back and leader, Reilly led his team to a win over Mayo in the big wind final of 1948 thanks to a late point from Peter Donohoe. Reilly passed away at the young age of 34 in 1952.
