It was decided to play the All-Ireland final in the Polo Grounds, New York with Míchéal O’Hehir broadcasting the game back to Ireland. Cavan and Kerry won through to the final and received a ticker-tape parade down Broadway during their visit. Cavan recovered from being down 2-4 to 0-2 after 15 minutes to win 2-11 to 2-7 with Cavan’s Peter Donohoe called “the Babe Ruth of Gaelic football” by the New York Times.
