Sunday 6 August 1939
There was carnage in Castleblayney as Cavan and Armagh fought out the Ulster final in front of a baying crowd. There were four pitch invasions, Armagh captain Jim McCollough was punched by a spectator and the game had been going on for two-and-a-half hours when the referee decided enough was enough. Cavan had been leading by 2-6 to 2-4 at the time and went on to win the replay in the calm of Croke Park.
