Tommy Murphy rose to national prominence in 1937 when he made his Laois debut at 16 against Offaly, being marked by Railway Cup star Bill Mulhall. Murphy was part of the side that defeated Louth in the Leinster final that year. He was named in the GAA Team of the Millennium and had a cup named after him, first won by Clare in 2004.
