Mayo won their first All Ireland final in 1936 and more than 50,000 people attended the match. Paddy Munnelly scored a hat-trick for Mayo while Henry Kenny, father of Enda Kenny, played on Mayo's winning team. Laois's Bill Delaney played the match with two broken bones in his foot. Mayo sealed an easy victory, 4-11 to 0-5 points.
