Michael Brennan played in goals for the Galway footballers and also represent the Tribe’s hurlers. That dual status was rare at the time. Michael Donnellan had earlier captained Connacht to Railway Cup success but retired in the aftermath of it. After suffering early jitters against Roscommon they fought back to reach the final where they met Mayo. They had less difficulty against their rivals and won by five points.
