Monaghan stunned Kildare in the All-Ireland semi-final and were charged with the responsibility of stopping Kerry. The Farney men actually scored first through Peter McConnon but Kerry, inspired by the passing of the great Dick Fitzgerald two days before the game, swept them aside 3-11 to 0-2. The Kingdom’s goalkeeper Johnny Riordan didn’t touch the ball once during the game.
