With the Free State government holding large numbers of people in jail, Waterford GAA suspended its activity and grounds in Cork were vandalised in protest at the internments. Kerry initially refused to travel to the final but when it did go ahead they lost to Dublin by 1-5 to 1-3. Paul Russell, aged 17, played his first-ever game for Kerry in the final.
