On their way to beating Limerick 1-7 to 0-1 in the Munster final in Cork, Tipperary had to walk part of the way, travel part by car and part by rail over blocked roads and blown-up bridges during Civil War-torn Ireland. Sligo beat Tipp in an All Ireland semi-final but did not get to play the final as Galway objected to their Connacht final loss and played a replay as a curtain raiser to the All Ireland hurling final. Dublin beat Galway in the final.
