Monaghan’s preparation for the All-Ireland semi-final was hampered when they were kidnapped by the B Specials in Dromore Co Tyrone on their way to play the Ulster final against Derry. In February, 42 loyalists were kidknapped by the IRA and held as hostages for the footballers who were released on the 16th of that month. Unsurprisingly, Dublin won the semi-final.
