Mayoman Seán Lavan was perhaps not the first to ever complete a toe-to-hand solo but when he carried the ball up the field against Dublin and put the ball over the bar, the crowd were stunned. So too was the referee who disallowed the score. Kiltimagh man Lavan was also a top Irish sprinter and won no fewer than 15 titles between 1923-38 and represented Ireland at the 1924 and 1928 (as captain) Olympic Games.
