The 1918 Ulster final was cancelled because of the British army occupation of the match venue in Cootehil and subsequently the playing of all sporting activity was banned unless an event had a permit. In defiance against the regulations the GAA held a "Gaelic Sunday" all over Ireland with over 100,000 people playing Gaelic games.
