The Easter Rising meant that the championship, in which Dublin and Kerry did not participate, was not complete until the last Sunday before Christmas. Hay was laid on the Croke Park pitch and the game went ahead on a frosty pitch go ahead as Wexford, with 14 of the previous year’s starting team lining out, beat Mayo in front of a small crowd of 3,000.
