The first All-Ireland final between Cork and Dublin ended in a controversial draw: Cork refused to play extra-time owing to a dispute over the time the referee had allowed so both teams headed to Thurles for the replay. More controversy followed when some of the crowd encroached onto the field and assaulted Dublin players. Dublin refused to continue and were awarded the title, leaving Cork to withdraw from the GAA.
