Fierce rivals Kerry and Cork faced off in the 1890 Munster Senior Football final, Laune Rangers representing Kerry & Midleton representing Cork. This like the many that followed was a nail biting battle with the sides still scoreless at 57 minutes but then the ball burst. Killorglin of Kerry were responsible for providing a replacement ball but despite frantic efforts to find one, non could be located. The match had to be abandoned but in the replay its was Cork who prevailed.
Just three years later in 1893 there was more drama in the GAA Munster Senior Football final. Laune Rangers (Kerry) and Dromtarriffe (Cork) were fixed on two occasions to play this final in Millstreet but the Kerry side did not travel. The game was fixed for a third time in Mallow but there was still no show from the Kerry side and Cork received a walkover.
