Another weekend of top-class inter-county action and our ambassadors have put the necks on the line

Ambassador Predictions Wk 3Another weekend of top-class inter-county action and our ambassadors have put the necks on the line.

Offaly v Kildare Predictions

Hawkeye will make it’s debut when Kildare clash with Offaly on Croke Park but the big question is whether any one score will be between the teams, because the bookies have the Lilywhites well ahead in this one.

So too do our ambassadors who have all gone with Kieran ‘Geezer’ McGeeney’s men. But the Armagh man has been shocked before, as Wicklow did in 2008, so perhaps you’ll all it that way in our Win, Lose or Draw game.

Dublin v Westmeath Predictions

Dennis Glennon and Dessie Dolan have this week spoken about how much they would like to bring Dublin to Cusack Park in Mullingar for a Leinster SFC bout but that’s not to be, as Jim Gavin’s men play their eighth game of the year at GAA HQ.

Donie Shine, like all our pundits, has gone for the Dubs but hasn’t completely ruled out an upset.  He says:

“The Westmeath captain, Kieran Gavin, is a good friend of mine and I know that the mood in the camp is good. They will need a fast start and try to stay in touch for as long as possible. The Dubs have serious firepower if they click but it is there first day out and they maybe slow out of the blocks.”

Johnny Doyle has played the Dubs at HQ plenty of times so he knows what faces the Lake County:

“In terms of a surprise or potential surprise, Westmeath could hit the ground running and have some ammunition up front to potentially trouble the Dubs, but I could also be way off. They are going well but the Dubs in Croker is a huge ask.”

Kerry v Waterford Predictions

Kerry face their second game in a week after completely outplaying Tipperary at Fitzgerald Stadium last weekend. Eamonn Fitzmaurice had named an unchanged team and, unsurprisingly, each of our ambassadors has gone for a Kingdom victory. Including Colm ‘Gooch’ Cooper, who many expect to dictate play from centre-forward.

Down v Derry Predictions

Derry are actually slight favourites for the game with the bookies but that hasn’t been reflected in how our ambassadors see this one going.

"People are forgetting that Derry after a shaky start have had a strong League Campaign. Any team that Brian McIver is over will be very well organised and I think they'll have too much for a Down side missing the likes of Dan Gordon.  I think Derry have a huge opportunity here — the question is, will they take it?" says Mickey Harte.
